Wedding of the Century
James Arnold Mansion, Inc. held a fundraising event, the reenactment of the wedding between James Arnold and Sarah Rotch, on October 28th at the James Arnold Mansion 427 County Street. Excellent food, music, dance as well as silent auctions and open bar followed the ceremony. This year is the 210th anniversary of the actual wedding which took place on October 29, 1807. We were off by one day for the celebration but I’m sure James and Sarah will forgive us. Sarah and her parents (Actors from Your theater) left the Mariners home (her former residence) and took a carriage up Union Street to the Mansion where a typical Quaker wedding and celebration take place. Everyone had a great time and the James Arnold Mansion, Inc. raised funds to preserve, protect and maintain the building for future generations.
The Mansion was the place to visit during James and Sarah’s occupancy . Anyone of notoriety in the 1800’s would make it a point to visit the Mansion and it’s extensive gardens.
We plan on having tours as well as informational teas open to the public within the near future. For more information please visit our website : https://www.jamesarnoldmansion.org email: info@jamesarnoldmansion.org
